Farm Fresh Eggs

The rich, vibrant yolks and firm, clear whites in our Farm Fresh eggs is traceable to the high quality of our feeds. Egg quality, taste and nutrition are also connected to the production system behind the eggs.

The quality of eggs starts with the care and feed given to the hen.

The combine factors of production system and feed ingredients informed our philosophy that “happy hens lay good eggs”. For this reason, we prioritise the welfare of our hens by keeping them safe, healthy and happy.

Our hens are fed on a cereal-based vegetarian diet with natural additives like marigold and paprika, which give our eggs their distinct vibrant yellow yolks. We simply won’t compromise on the welfare of our hens, as good welfare and good quality go hand in hand.

We sell eggs direct from our farm to kitchens and the wholesale buyers. Eggs are graded simultaneously for exterior and interior quality to reduce the number of eggs with defects that detract from the egg’s appearance or that would have a low probability of surviving the typical handling involved in getting eggs from the farm to market. Be it direct kitchen sales or commercial sales, you can be 100% assured of the provenance, freshness and quality of our eggs.

Our eggs are packed and despatched for delivery by our overnight delivery service, ensuring fresh eggs arrive at yours the next day.

Pasture Raised Meat Chicken

When, in poultry, chicken is said to be pasture raised, it means the chicken is raised in a way that’s consistent with how chickens would naturally live: in pasture, with the ability to freely roam, scratch, and peck, improving the soil at the same time. Essentially, pasture-raised chickens eat a diet made up of provided feed and foraged grubs and insects, which is the natural diet of healthy birds.

Our feed is certified organic!

At RedGate Farms, we strive to grow healthy, tasty, and humanely pastured chickens for meat.

We primarily focus on two types of meat chickens, Noiler and Kuroiler for their adaptability to harsh conditions and meat quality. Chickens arrive at our farm as baby chicks and are moved to pasture within four weeks where they enjoy munching on fresh pasture, bugs and get plenty of fresh air. As they forage, they make the most of outdoor organic pastures, being a breeds developed to scavenge for food and water just like indigenous or local chicken breeds do.

The chicken spend most of their lives running around outside, foraging for their natural diet and developing more muscle than a bird in a conventional chicken-house. In large part, their consumption of clovers and grasses play a big role in ensuring a flavourful bird. The pastures provide up to 25% of the total nutritional needs of our chickens with the rest of their diet provided by a certified organic grain mixture of soybeans, corn, oats, wheat, vitamins, minerals, a mix of probiotics and grit (granite bits which aid digestion).

Feed is custom milled on our farm using certified organic grains including probiotics, flax seed, and whole grains. No antibiotics, hormones, animal by-products or synthetics of any kind pass the beaks of our chickens.

Why Pasture?

Pasture-raised chicken is nutrient-dense as a result of the fresh, natural diet of the chickens. Compared to barn-raised birds (and even “free range organic”), pasture-raised chickens actively graze on vitamin and protein-rich pasture and hunt for seeds and insects (crickets and clover). This delightful buffet contributes to:

  • Higher concentrations of vitamins D and E.
  • Other vitamins, like vitamin A and beta-carotene, and micronutrients may also be higher (reference) but there’s isn’t sufficient data to say this with confidence.
  • Gelatin-rich broth and healthy organs and, therefore, increased value of the whole bird.
  • Flavourful, juicy meat (reference, showing “preferred sensory attributes”).

Live Turkeys

Generally speaking, turkeys are smart, playful, and curious about humans. They will come to you when you approach their paddock! Turkeys are omnivores who love to eat grass, bugs, and small rodents. They also enjoy variety of fruits like apples, pears, avocados etc. The difference in texture and flavor from pasture raised Turkey is shocking compared to the typical bird sold in a grocery store.

We guarantee that our festive turkey will be the highlight of your Christmas dinner!

Like our chickens, the Turkeys we raise spend one month in our brooder as chicks. From then on, they need little from humans, and are good to go on pasture. There, they enjoy an active, un-caged and "cared for" life; the birds are free to roam outside the night shelter and enjoy the outdoor fresh air until they reach the optimum age to deliver the desired flavour and succulence.

You’ll simply notice the difference in the flavour, which is the all important factor in choosing all food. The distinctive flavour of our turkeys comes from the open grazing or pasture life they enjoyed throughout their lives.

Eggs are brought to you directly from our farm fresh while pasture meat birds (Chicken and Turkey) are delivered live or slaughtered and prepared. There is minimal storage, nor long distribution chains. From the farm to your table in hours.
